1. The first step of graphing a linear equation is to have a rough idea of how the graph should look like. A linear graph looks like a line. The line may be vetical, horizontal, or diagonal depending on the equation. The general formula for a linear equation is as follows:
The m, represents the slope or slant of the line the higher this number is the steeper the 'slope' will become.
The b, represents the horizontal shift for the graph. If the b is positive the graph will be shifted b units to the left. Conversely if the b is negative the graph will be shifted b units to the right.
