Systems of equations are used to find the intersection of two or more functions algebraicly The benefit of find the intersection of two function usig algebra as opposed to graphing the equations is that it can be done relatively quickly without time consuming graphing.
The general idea to solve a system of equations is to add or subtract the equations in such a way, such that one of the two variables are canceled out. Once there is only one variable left, that variable can be solved. After the variable is solved, then the oher variable can be found by simply plugging in the first variable.
